Never make the same color twice. I say this in all my class and I am saying this in all my YouTube videos. I always change and change the color. This gives your paintings so much life. The palette here is just as pretty as the painting... if not more. Don't brush mix to make the same color, brush mix to make different colors. Use a limited palette so this is easier to accomplish. The "Masters" found this out hundreds of years ago. Have a great painting day.
Yesterday we had a discussion on red and green. Here is an example. I painted this painting using mostly reds and greens. The white flower is built using the neutral made from the reds and greens. Notice the reds on the palette how I place the 3 reds out in a line from the warm Naphthol Red Light to the cool Red Violet with cool Quin. Violet in the center. Cool Red Violet is used to tone and cool shadow green leave, while Nap. Red Light is used to tone and warm lighter green leaves. The beautiful whites are controlled by brush mixing the reds and greens with touches of Hansa Yellow.
Sound difficult? No. All you have to do is limit down your palette to a few of your favorite colors and learn their temperatures. It is so much more difficult to paint with 12 colors than 6 if you think about it. Try to remember the temperatures of all 12 colors. Remember your color printers does in with 4 colors. It can be done and it is not difficult at all if you start doing it. Color is nothing to fear. Embrace it, it will make you an artist. smile emoticon Have a great painting day.

This summer I have been added the mixed color in the Heritage line, Pine Green. When we made Heritage we made it different than other versions. It can be warmed and cooled very easy without losing it's brightness. Here I place it at the top with Red Violet to cool it for darks and shadows. I place some down at the bottom to warm with Hansa and Naphthol Red Light. I have produced several videos for our Youtube showing how to quickly warm and cool the greens using Pine Green. This painting sold very quickly :) .
